This is to keep it a safe and useful space for MoneySaving discussions. Threads that are – or become – political in nature may be removed in line with the Forum’s rules . Thank you for your understanding. cjgoodsell Posts: 246 Forumite 12 March 2010 at 3:51PM Are you the first owner of the new car? If so check for that in the unlikely event of a write off in the first year that you get a brand new car replacement. I know Direct Line did that... Also some insurers give you all round glass cover instead of just windscreen... Apart from those have a look at the policy booklets online or "key facts" if its available they should help you decide I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me. 0 missile Posts: 11,971 Forumite 12 March 2010 at 4:09PM If you would prefer direct line, phone to see if they will price match. If they are so bad at renewal, I shudder to think what they would be like in the event of a claim. So far, they have cancelled my cover without telling me ( which I only found out by accident as I called them about adding my daughter to the policy, and discovered that I had apparently been driving without insurance for over 2 weeks, although I had received policy documentation and paid the annual premium). Last week they have called my office number twice asking for my husband, and I managed to intercept one of the calls by chance, as they were naturally being told they no-one of that name worked here. I eventually managed to get them to tell me why they were calling with difficulty ( just a sales call) as they were insistent that it was his policy not mine, again despinte the fact that I have the policy documents, and I pointed out to them that the number they were calling was mine not his! Basically, I would not touch them with a bargepole!! 0 sdavi3680 Posts: 219 Forumite 12 March 2010 at 4:34PM Just phoned up Direct Line, they don't price match. Admiral replace the car at market value, so I'm guessing you would lose a few thousand pounds. Direct Line said they replace like for like, saying they would give you a brand new replacement. The policy is close to £400 with Admiral and £600 with Direct Line. Am I right in thinking that Direct Line don't charge for address changes? 0 sdavi3680 Posts: 219 Forumite 12 March 2010 at 4:35PM What other companies don't use gocompare and moneysupermarket? 0 ti_21 Posts: 11 Forumite 19 March 2010 at 9:27PM kayl wrote: » I am half way through my second year with Admiral and, whilst they were by far the cheapest quote, their customer service/ organistaion is so appalling that I will not be going with them again on renewal. Currentlywith elephant and very concerned and looking around, tesco about £250 more but as I am only three months in to a 10 month accelerator I will incur £50 admin fee and get a refund on the days outstanding. Don't like the sound of Albany Assist as I have encountered a lot of angst with Drive Assist, but I guess I have learnt my lesson about credit hire companies, but unfortunately Albany is the legal assistance company...Still very undecided... 0 grawiz Posts: 31 Forumite 3 December 2010 at 12:36AM I am with Admiral, and was just charged £17-50 administration fee to change my address (first move ib 8 years). The guy on the phone couldn't explain to me why it cost so much money to send out a new Certificate with only a change of address - the cost of cover hadn't changed. Direct Line were brilliant in the past, and I will go back to them at the end of this policy. 0 Foggster Posts: 1,023 Forumite 3 December 2010 at 8:08AM I moved away from DL due to their very high renewal charges - watch out for this if you go with them. I have house, 2 x cars and even the cats insured with them yet they tried to get me to pay £500 more on the 2 cars at renewal. Following advice here I went with CSIS who I have found very reasonable and good to deal with. 0 TheWisker Posts: 2 Newbie 3 December 2010 at 3:32PM Go with Direct Line, trust me best insurance company in the UK. To make the D/L quote cheaper, add your other half to the policy. Also put the mileage down as 3,000 to get the cheapest price. Obviously if your doing more that 3,000 then tell them. With the change of address you'l get an admin charge of £15.75. If the new area is cheaper to insure you'l get a refund when you change, if new area more expensive than you current address then they'll charge an additional premium. Benefits with d/l: uninsured driver promise (if your hit by an uninsured idiot then record his reg number. report it to the police. Tell direct like, you wont be asked to pay an excess and you wouldnt loose your ncd.) Vandalism Cover : if car is vandalised you pay the excess but dont loose your NCD. New car replacement scheme : (if your is written off, D/L will get you another identical one, direct from the dealer). This is a good one 0 Confirm your email address to Create Threads and Reply
