Hulu + Live TV vs. YouTube TV (2026): Which Is Better?
发布时间:2026-09-16 | 浏览:1
Quick wins for a faster PC:
For most U.S. cord-cutters who primarily want a cable replacement, YouTube TV is the better standalone live-TV service. Its regular main-plan price is $82.99 per month, compared with $89.99 for Hulu + Live TV, and it offers three simultaneous streams, six household accounts, unlimited DVR, strong sports features, and the option to buy smaller genre-based plans.
Hulu + Live TV can be the better value if your household already wants Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN access. It also carries channels that YouTube TV does not currently offer, including A&E, History, Lifetime, MLB Network, and TCM. The decisive issue is not the advertised channel count. Check both services by ZIP code for your local affiliates, regional sports networks, and must-have channels before subscribing.
Updated August 9, 2026: Prices, promotions, channel lineups, sports rights, and supported devices can change. The comparison below separates regular prices from temporary offers and links to the providers’ current information.
The short answer
YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV are aimed at different kinds of cord-cutter, even though both advertise more than 100 live channels.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Choose YouTube TV if you want the clearest replacement for cable, watch several live channels at once, follow a lot of sports, want NFL Sunday Ticket, or prefer a more focused live-TV interface.
Choose Hulu + Live TV if you already pay for Hulu and Disney+, want their on-demand libraries bundled with live channels, or need channels such as A&E, History, Lifetime, MLB Network, PBS, or TCM.
Choose neither without more research if your decision depends on a specific regional sports network, a local affiliate, international viewing, or a channel that does not appear in the provider’s ZIP-code lineup.
YouTube TV is cheaper by regular sticker price, but Hulu’s included streaming services can make its higher bill worthwhile. That means there is no universal winner on total value: the right calculation depends on what your household already subscribes to and actually watches.
Quick comparison
See YouTube TV’s current plan information and Hulu’s Live TV page for the latest checkout prices and terms.
Price and value: which service is actually cheaper?
YouTube TV wins the regular standalone price comparison
The regular YouTube TV main plan costs $82.99 per month , while Hulu + Live TV’s ad-supported bundle costs $89.99 per month . Before tax, that is a $7 monthly difference, or $84 over a full year.
YouTube TV’s $82.99 price is the regular main-plan price. Some promotional pages may show a temporary introductory price such as $67.99. Treat that as a signup offer, not as the ongoing cost. Promotional eligibility and the price after the offer ends should be confirmed at checkout.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Neither service requires a cable box rental or an installation appointment. Taxes may apply, and both providers can change prices, channel lineups, add-ons, and promotion rules.
Hulu’s higher price buys a larger entertainment bundle
The $89.99 Hulu plan is not simply Hulu’s live channels at a higher price. It includes:
Hulu’s on-demand streaming library.
Disney+ with ads.
ESPN Select and related ESPN bundle entitlements, subject to activation and current terms.
Hulu + Live TV’s live channels and unlimited DVR.
The $99.99 plan upgrades the Hulu and Disney+ streaming libraries to their premium versions. That removes ads from eligible Hulu and Disney+ on-demand programming, but it does not make live TV ad-free . Live channels and live-TV video-on-demand content can still contain commercials.
The practical question is whether you would pay for Hulu and Disney+ separately anyway. If the answer is yes, Hulu + Live TV may consolidate several bills and become the better household value. If you mainly want live news, local stations, sports, and cable networks, you may be paying for streaming libraries you do not use.
YouTube TV’s 2026 genre plans change the calculation
YouTube TV is no longer limited to one large, all-purpose bundle. Its current plan structure includes a $64.99 Sports Plan and smaller combinations of sports, news, entertainment, and family programming. The Sports Plan is currently promoted at $54.99 per month for the first 12 months , then $64.99; the listed promotion ends August 26, 2026, subject to eligibility.
Current third-party pricing coverage also lists examples such as:
Entertainment at about $54.99 per month.
Sports + News at about $71.99 per month.
News + Entertainment + Family at about $69.99 per month.
These genre-plan prices and introductory offers should be rechecked on YouTube TV’s official plans page before purchase. A smaller plan can be a meaningful alternative for someone who wants live sports or entertainment but does not need the full main bundle. It is not automatically a replacement for Hulu’s included Hulu and Disney+ libraries.
The separate YouTube TV Sports Plan includes more than 30 sports and local channels, including ESPN, NFL Network, NBA TV, FS1, and local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC feeds where available. It does not include the full entertainment and news lineup of the main plan, and NFL Sunday Ticket costs extra.

Channel lineups: compare must-have networks, not headline totals
Both companies advertise more than 100 channels, but the totals are not calculated identically and do not guarantee the same local lineup. Hulu’s current Live TV landing page says 100+ channels, while its March 2026 channel guide says 95+ live and local channels. That discrepancy is a reason to treat channel counts as marketing shorthand rather than a precise comparison.
The useful question is: Does the service carry the exact channels and local affiliates your household watches?
This is a list of high-interest differences, not a permanent channel contract. For the most current information, consult YouTube TV’s network directory and Hulu’s channel guide .
Run this channel check before subscribing
Enter your ZIP code in YouTube TV’s location and network checker .
Enter the same ZIP code on Hulu’s Live TV signup page.
Confirm your local ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, and CW affiliates.
Search for your regional sports network, not just the league or team name.
Check A&E, History, Lifetime, MLB Network, NBA TV, BBC America, TCM, NFL Network, and any network that would make you cancel another service.
Verify whether a channel is included in the base plan or requires an add-on.
This step matters more than whether one provider advertises 95+ channels and the other advertises 100+.

Sports: YouTube TV has the better overall sports toolkit
YouTube TV is the stronger choice for most sports-first households , especially viewers who want to follow multiple games or watch out-of-market NFL games. Hulu, however, has some important channel advantages, particularly MLB Network and its bundled ESPN arrangement.
Why YouTube TV is better for sports viewing
Multiview: On supported content and devices, you can watch up to four games or feeds on one screen.
Key Plays: Supported games can provide a quick way to find important moments without watching an entire replay.
Sports views and stats: YouTube TV integrates additional sports-oriented viewing tools on supported programming.
NFL Sunday Ticket: Available as an extra-cost subscription through YouTube TV or as a standalone YouTube Primetime Channel.
NBA TV and NFL Network: Both are part of YouTube TV’s sports offerings, subject to the selected plan.
Sports Plus: An optional add-on that includes NFL RedZone and additional sports channels.
NFL Sunday Ticket covers Sunday-afternoon regular-season games that are not carried by local broadcasts in the viewer’s area. It does not replace every NFL broadcast and does not include every nationally televised game. It also does not eliminate local-market rules for games carried by local stations.
The $64.99 YouTube TV Sports Plan is useful for a sports-heavy household, but do not confuse it with the full YouTube TV package. It is a focused plan and omits much of the general entertainment and news lineup.
Where Hulu is stronger for sports
Hulu’s current channel guide lists a broad collection of sports networks, including:
ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, and ESPNU.
That makes Hulu a serious option for baseball viewers and households already using its Disney and ESPN ecosystem. It still does not provide NFL Sunday Ticket, and the availability of regional sports networks remains market- and rights-dependent.
Do not confuse ESPN Select with a simple “free ESPN+” benefit
Hulu’s current terminology is more complicated than the common shorthand that says Hulu + Live TV includes ESPN+.
ESPN Select provides ESPN+ content.
ESPN Unlimited covers ESPN’s broader linear networks and services, including ESPN and ESPN2, ESPN+, ESPN on ABC, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN Deportes, SEC+, and ACCNX under the applicable bundle terms.
Hulu’s Live TV lineup also carries several ESPN-branded live channels directly.
The ESPN app may be required for some of the bundled content, and activation and participating-provider terms apply.
Review the current ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited terms rather than assuming every ESPN event appears in the Hulu app or that every service is ad-free.
Regional sports are a separate problem
Neither service should be treated as a complete regional-sports solution. Availability depends on your city, the network’s rights, the provider’s carriage agreement, and league blackout rules. Even if YouTube TV or Hulu carries national ESPN, FOX, TBS, or TNT programming, a local team’s game may be unavailable.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.
If your main reason for subscribing is one RSN—such as YES, NESN, or a Bally Sports channel—compare the exact network with DirecTV Stream, Fubo, a direct RSN subscription, or another provider before choosing either service.
DVR: both have unlimited storage, but the workflow matters
On storage, the services are effectively tied. Both offer unlimited cloud DVR. Hulu says recordings can be stored for up to nine months, and current comparison testing reports a similar nine-month expiration window for YouTube TV.
The real DVR questions are different:
Can you schedule the program or team easily?
Can you find the recording later?
Is the app playing your recording or an on-demand version?
Can you fast-forward through commercials in that particular version?
Will the recording remain available for the entire period you expect?
YouTube TV recording and ad skipping
YouTube TV allows fast-forwarding through commercials on recorded programs. The exception is important: an on-demand version may impose commercial breaks even when a DVR recording would allow you to skip them. YouTube TV explains its advertising and fast-forward rules in its support documentation.
Reviewers have generally found YouTube TV’s recording and library workflow more intuitive. Its sports tools also make it easier to jump into selected moments on supported games.
Hulu recording and ad skipping
Hulu says its Unlimited DVR allows subscribers to fast-forward through recorded content. However, Hulu can also present on-demand versions alongside recordings, and the interface may not always make the distinction obvious. An on-demand version can contain mandatory advertisements.
Hulu Premium removes ads from eligible Hulu and Disney+ on-demand libraries. It does not remove advertising from live TV or from live-TV video-on-demand programming. A premium streaming tier is therefore not a substitute for a commercial-free live-TV DVR.
For either service, check that you are watching the recorded version before trying to skip ads. Published testing from Reviews.org found YouTube TV’s DVR experience easier to understand, but app behavior can differ by device and software version.
Apps, guide, and everyday usability
YouTube TV is more focused on live television
YouTube TV uses a relatively direct live-TV model with a guide, live channels, search, and a library of recordings. Its YouTube-style navigation and search are familiar to many viewers, while each household member can maintain a personal account, library, and recommendations.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Its main usability advantages are particularly visible for sports:
Multiview is integrated into the service rather than requiring separate streams.
Key Plays and related sports views reduce the work involved in catching up.
Search can locate programs, teams, channels, and recordings across the service.
Three simultaneous streams are included on standard and genre plans.
Hulu combines more content but can feel busier
Hulu puts live TV, Hulu’s on-demand catalog, Disney+, and ESPN-related access into one broader entertainment ecosystem. That is convenient if your household jumps between current-season shows, Hulu Originals, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, live channels, and sports.
The trade-off is a more crowded discovery experience. Published reviews have found Hulu’s live guide and recording workflow less transparent than YouTube TV’s in some testing. That is review-based usability evidence, not an objective measurement that applies to every viewer or device. If navigation is important to you, use any trial or promotional access offered to your account to test the guide, search, DVR, and playback controls before committing.
Families, accounts, and simultaneous streams
YouTube TV is simpler for three or more live viewers
YouTube TV includes up to six personal accounts in one household and three simultaneous streams on its standard plans. Each person can have separate recommendations and a separate library.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
The family group is intended for people who live in the same household. It is not a legitimate method of splitting one subscription among unrelated homes. Members may need to periodically use the service in the home area.
The optional 4K Plus add-on can provide unlimited simultaneous streams at home and three streams outside the home, along with offline viewing of eligible DVR recordings.
Hulu starts with two live-TV streams
Hulu + Live TV includes two simultaneous Hulu + Live TV streams by default. The optional Unlimited Screens add-on allows unlimited home streams and three mobile or on-the-go screens, although premium-network restrictions can apply.
That add-on changes Hulu’s family economics. A household regularly watching three different live channels at once may find YouTube TV’s included three streams simpler and less expensive. A family that primarily values Disney+ downloads, Hulu on-demand shows, or one shared live channel may still prefer Hulu’s broader bundle.

Travel and location rules
Travel is one of the most commonly overlooked differences between streaming TV and traditional cable. Neither service is designed for unrestricted sharing across unrelated households, and live-TV rights are tied to location.
YouTube TV while traveling in the U.S.
YouTube TV’s current rules include several important limits:
The service is available only in the United States.
When traveling outside the home area, you generally see local programming for your current location.
Your home-area local channels cannot be recorded or watched live while you are away from home.
You should check in from the home area at least once every three months.
MLB viewers should use YouTube TV in the home area at least once every 30 days to reduce sports-location restrictions.
YouTube TV is unavailable during international travel.
VPNs and proxies can interfere with location verification and playback.
Read the current home-area guidance , travel rules , and content-restriction information if you travel frequently, attend college away from home, live part-time in an RV, or expect to watch MLB from multiple locations.
Hulu also uses location and a home network
Hulu + Live TV requires location data and maintains a home-network system. The provider’s home-network guidance is especially important for households that move between homes or try to share an account with people elsewhere.
Before choosing either service for a vacation home or frequent travel, verify the current location rules. A service may work for on-demand viewing while limiting local channels, live sports, or recordings away from home.
Supported devices
Both services support the major streaming platforms, including phones, tablets, browsers, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast or Google TV, Xbox, and selected Samsung and LG smart TVs. Device support and individual features can change, so check the providers’ current lists before buying new hardware.
YouTube TV’s current supported-device page lists:
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 .
Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles.
Apple TV fourth generation and Apple TV 4K .
Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, and Chromecast with Google TV .
Selected Samsung and LG smart TVs.
Selected immersive-reality devices.
Hulu’s current Live TV information lists Android and Apple mobile devices, Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, Roku, Samsung and LG televisions, Xbox, Nintendo Switch , and browser playback.
Nintendo Switch is a potential differentiator: Hulu currently lists Switch support, while YouTube TV’s current official supported-device list does not list Nintendo Switch. That describes the providers’ current published lists; it should not be treated as a permanent incompatibility guarantee.
Also remember that platform support does not guarantee identical features. Multiview, offline downloads, location verification, and add-on purchases can have device-specific restrictions.
4K and offline viewing
YouTube TV has the stronger 4K and download option
YouTube TV’s optional 4K Plus add-on provides:
Select programming in 4K, not a universal 4K feed.
Unlimited simultaneous streams at home.
Three streams outside the home.
Offline viewing of eligible DVR recordings on mobile devices.
A recommended download speed of at least 25 Mbps for 4K.
Downloads that expire with the recording’s nine-month availability window.
The price of 4K Plus varies and should be checked in YouTube TV membership settings. Do not rely on an old permanent-price claim.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Hulu has select 4K on-demand content
Hulu offers select 4K on-demand programming, but standard Hulu + Live TV plans do not provide universal 4K live television. If your priority is watching live sports in 4K, check the specific event and device rather than assuming the service’s availability of some 4K on-demand titles applies to live channels.
Who should choose YouTube TV?
YouTube TV is the better fit when several of the following describe your household:
You mainly want live television rather than a large on-demand bundle.
You want the lower regular standalone price.
You need three simultaneous live streams without paying for an extra screen package.
You want six personalized household accounts.
You watch several games at once and value Multiview or Key Plays.
You follow out-of-market NFL games and want NFL Sunday Ticket.
You want NBA TV, NFL Network, or sports-focused add-ons.
You want to consider a smaller sports, news, entertainment, or family plan.
You prefer a more focused guide and DVR workflow.
You do not need A&E, History, Lifetime, MLB Network, or Hulu’s Disney+ ecosystem.
Who should choose Hulu + Live TV?
Hulu + Live TV is the better fit when these benefits outweigh its $89.99 regular price:
You already pay for Hulu and Disney+ and want to consolidate them.
Your household watches Hulu Originals, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, or ESPN+ content.
You need A&E, History, Lifetime, Lifetime Movies, MLB Network, PBS, TCM, or another channel currently listed by Hulu but not by YouTube TV.
You value a large on-demand library alongside live channels.
Two default live-TV streams are enough, or you are willing to add Unlimited Screens.
You prefer Hulu’s content-discovery model to a traditional live-TV guide.
Your ZIP-code lineup contains the local stations and sports networks you require.
When neither service is the right answer
Look beyond these two services if:
Your must-have channel is a regional sports network and you have not checked its exact market availability.
You need to watch from outside the United States.
You want permanent local recordings or permanent downloads rather than expiring cloud DVR content.
Your internet service has a strict data cap and several people will stream HD, 4K, or Multiview at the same time.
You need a channel that is not clearly included in the current ZIP-code lineup.
You are trying to keep the bill substantially below roughly $80 to $90 per month while still replacing a full cable package.
Before you subscribe: a practical checklist
Check both ZIP-code lineups. Confirm local ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, and CW affiliates.
Check your regional sports network. Search for the network itself and review blackout rules.
List your must-have channels. Include A&E, History, Lifetime, MLB Network, NBA TV, BBC America, TCM, NFL Network, and the sports networks your household actually watches.
Compare regular prices. Put introductory offers in a separate column and note the promotion’s end date and post-promotion rate.
Add the real sports cost. Include NFL Sunday Ticket, Sports Plus, premium networks, or any other package you would need.
Calculate the full household bill. Compare Hulu’s bundle with the Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN services you already pay for—or would buy separately.
Test the DVR. Record a show and a live sporting event, then confirm whether the app opens the recording or a VOD version.
Test simultaneous viewing. Try the number of TVs, phones, or tablets your household uses at the same time.
Check device compatibility. Pay particular attention to older smart TVs, game consoles, Multiview, offline downloads, and location features.
Review travel and home-network rules. This is essential for students, RV users, second-home owners, and frequent travelers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is YouTube TV cheaper than Hulu + Live TV?
Yes, by regular standalone price. YouTube TV’s main plan is $82.99 per month, while Hulu + Live TV’s standard bundle is $89.99. Hulu may be the better total value if you would otherwise pay separately for Hulu and Disney+ and want the included ESPN entitlements.
Does Hulu + Live TV include ESPN+?
The current bundle uses the terms ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited rather than simply offering one generic ESPN+ benefit. ESPN Select provides ESPN+ content, while ESPN Unlimited covers broader ESPN networks and services under the applicable terms. Some programming requires the separate ESPN app and activation, so check the current ESPN bundle documentation.
Can you get NFL Sunday Ticket with Hulu + Live TV?
No. NFL Sunday Ticket is available through YouTube TV or as a standalone YouTube Primetime Channel. It is an extra-cost subscription and covers out-of-market Sunday-afternoon regular-season games, not every NFL game.
Can you skip commercials with either service’s unlimited DVR?
Usually, you can fast-forward through commercials in a DVR recording on both services. However, either app may offer an on-demand version instead, and VOD commercials may not be skippable. Hulu Premium removes ads from eligible Hulu and Disney+ on-demand libraries, not from live TV.
Which service is better for MLB Network and regional sports?
Hulu’s current channel guide lists MLB Network, giving it an advantage for viewers who need that network. Neither service guarantees comprehensive regional-sports coverage. RSN availability and blackouts depend on your ZIP code, local rights, and the provider’s current agreements.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
The Bottom Line
Pick YouTube TV for the better all-around live-TV replacement. It costs less at regular price, includes three streams and six household accounts, has a more sports-focused feature set, supports NFL Sunday Ticket, and now offers smaller genre-based plans.
Pick Hulu + Live TV when the bundle is the point. If your household already wants Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN access—or needs A&E, History, Lifetime, MLB Network, PBS, or TCM—the extra monthly cost can be justified.
Before either subscription, enter your ZIP code, verify local stations and regional sports, check every must-have channel, and compare the permanent price after promotions end. That five-minute check is more reliable than any nationwide channel count.
