Manibela transport workers will hold a two-day nationwide strike on 14 September and 15 September 2026 to protest a massive increase in fuel prices. Diesel prices have increased by over ₱5.00 per litre, while gasoline prices have increased by almost ₱5.00 per litre, both of the increases attributable to supply disruptions caused by the Middle East. Manibela is calling for banning the fuel excise duties and immediate government subsidy as continued ramp ups in fuels could be causing further financial difficulties for public transport operators and drivers. Heavier diesel and gasoline prices lead to increased expenses for jeepney and bus operating units, which will make it more difficult for them to run their operations everyday. Sustained higher fuel prices can also drive up prices of goods and services, as companies transmit these higher transport costs along supply chains; it can also lead to higher household costs as consumers pay higher prices for goods and services. The advisories issued have led to the transition of several public schools in Metro Manila to A/V or online learning for September 14-15.
