The CMS NPI registry’s 2026-W37 file captures a remarkable enrollment surge: 5,044 records were originally enumerated in 2026, including many providers appearing in the registry for the first time. The weekly file contains 8,680 records , with 4,421 new this week . The count reflects both new enrollment and record updates, but the scale points to a behavioral health market still adding capacity at a rapid pace. California Sets the Pace California is the clear geographic leader, with 1,430 records , or 16% of the file. Florida follows with 595 providers , Texas with 559 , Michigan with 445 and New York with 402 . North Carolina, Ohio and Colorado also rank prominently, with 366, 361 and 316 records, respectively. California’s lead reflects population scale and a large, established behavioral health infrastructure. Florida’s position is especially important for ABA operators. Its large Medicaid ABA reimbursement program, high autism diagnosis rates and dense population of school-age children create strong incentives for clinicians and organizations to register. The state also appears to be sustaining momentum: 298 new providers were enumerated there this year, behind California’s 857 but ahead of several other major markets. The ranking also reveals uneven national development. Indiana, for example, appears among the top states for new enrollments this year with 108 records but not among the top 15 states overall. Smaller and rural states register activity, yet at far lower volumes than the large, payer-rich markets. Registry concentration therefore shows where provider infrastructure is being built, not necessarily where unmet need is greatest. RBTs Anchor a Broad Workforce RBT is the largest primary taxonomy, with 2,409 RBTs , or 28% of primary-taxonomy records. Mental health counselors account for 1,540 records, clinical social workers for 1,488 and speech-language pathologists for 772. The primary BCBA count is 545, or 6%. These categories overlap and are not mutually exclusive market shares. The registry lists 1,734 providers with a second taxonomy and 715 providers with a third. The 78 dual BCBA-RBT providers reflect a familiar ABA career path: many practitioners begin as RBTs, later earn BCBA certification and retain both designations. RBTs also remain underrepresented in federal registries compared with the field’s actual workforce, so the data should not be treated as a complete workforce census. Gender data shows a predominantly female workforce: 5,847 female individuals , or 78% , compared with 1,204 male and 432 nonbinary individuals. That pattern is consistent with behavioral health’s close ties to caregiving, education and other female-dominated professions. Recent Enrollment Dominates

Repeated entries may represent locations, service lines or separate billing identities rather than separate companies. That distinction matters when assessing consolidation. The appearance of organizations such as LACUNA AUTISM SERVICES LLC and GENERAL BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS LLC across multiple records suggests multi-site operations and administrative scaling, while ACTION BEHAVIOR CENTERS, LLC appears as an individual organization record rather than evidence of its full footprint. Together, the data shows a field expanding its supply while becoming more administratively complex. RBT enrollment supports direct-service capacity under BCBA supervision, while overlapping counseling, social work and speech credentials point to increasingly multidisciplinary care. The next challenge is converting rapid registration into adequately supervised, payer-ready services across state-specific rules.
