This issue occurs if the Windows Event Handler is not configured with a default application to use for scanning from the Brother machine when a button is pressed. Complete the following steps to choose a default application: 1. Open the Scanner and Camera folder: Not all machines support all listed operating systems. Check your machine's specifications on www.brother-usa.com .
- Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10: Browse to X:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer ( Where "X" represents your local disk drive letter) and double-clicking on ImagingDevices.exe .
- Windows Vista: Click → Control Panel → Hardware And Sound → Scanners And Cameras .
- Windows XP: Click Start → (Settings) → Control Panel → Scanners And Cameras .
2. Do one of the following:
- Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, or 10: Select the Brother scanner driver and then click Properties .
- Windows XP: Right-click on the Brother scanner driver and then left-cick Properties .
3. Click the Events tab.
4. From the "Select an event" dropdown, choose the desired scan function.
The available scan functions will vary based on your machine's specifications. Some common examples are "Scan/File Button" or "Scan/Image Button".
5. Under "Actions" choose Start this program and select the desired program from the dropdown list. 6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each subsequent scan function that you'd like to configure.
8. Click Close . Subsequent scans using the Scan option will use these settings.
