It blends style, performance, and handling very well while being comfortable enough for daily commutes. The bike is powered by a 159.7cc engine that develops 17.31bhp and 14.73Nm. The engine is paired with a five-speed gearbox and is known for its refinement and rideability. As for the styling, it is a good-looking street fighter. From the headlight cowl to the fuel tank and the side panels as well as the tail section, the design is neat and proportionate. The bike is available in six colours - Racing Red, Metallic Blue, Knight Black, Matte Black, Lightning Blue, and Glossy Black. Under the bodywork, there is a double cradle chassis that is suspended by a telescopic fork and a monoshock. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with tubeless tyres. This Apache RTR 160 4V bike weighs 146kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres. In terms of features, you get a DRL-equipped headlight, gear shift indicator, and three ride modes (Urban, Sport, and Rain). Moreover, the top-end variant of the Apache RTR 160 4V is equipped with the TVS SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity system. The variants are distinguished through the braking setup and the rear tyre type. The base model comes with a front disc/rear drum brake setup and misses the radial back tyre. The mid and the top variants get rear radial tyres and disc brakes on both wheels as standard. The Apache RTR 160 4V goes up against the Bajaj Pulsar N160. You wouldn’t be wrong as the 2021 model carries forward the styling upgrade that the motorcycle received during the BS6 transition. But the spec-sheet reveals a completely different story. TVS Motor Company has made mechanical revisions to the motor to make more power than before. What else? The company also managed to shed two kilograms from the weight over the 2020 model. Here we bring you the road test report of the 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. The overall build quality is above average and we didn’t notice any rattling sounds from the motorcycle during the test ride. The paint quality looks and feels good while the 3D logo and the chequered flag decals on the fuel tank further enhance the premium looks of the Apache RTR 160 4V. The sporty pillion grabrail and the dual-tone seat cover look stylish and well put together. But there are a few elements on the Apache RTR 160 4V that can improve. The plastic used on the LED DRLs, for example, appears as a clear cost-cutting measure. Moreover, while most of the switchgear worked well, the turn indicator controller felt rough while operating. The styling, as aforementioned, has remained unaltered as the 160cc motorcycle from TVS Motor Company received a major visual overhaul in 2020. Thus, the 2021 Apache RTR 160 4V continues to carry the Draken concept-inspired design that comprises a full-LED headlight with twin LED DRLs at the front, an LED taillight at the back, a yellow backlit instrument cluster, flat handlebar, and a step-up seat. The motorcycle retains all the cycle parts from the 2020 model, and thus the suspension tasks are handled by telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the back. The setup is tuned for sporty riding without being harsh. The telescopic front forks and the rear mono-shock absorb most of the undulations effortlessly, while being stiff enough to inspire confidence to push the motorcycle around the corners. The flat handlebar and slightly rear-set footpegs deliver sporty, yet upright ergonomics. The fuel tank recesses offer plenty of room to grab the motorcycle while the spacious saddle ensures sufficient room for the rider and the pillion. The seat height of 800mm should make it accessible to a wide range of riders. Moreover, the relatively light weight makes it easier to move the motorcycle around tight parking spaces. While the styling and the cycle parts remain identical to the 2020 model, the biggest upgrade for 2021 Apache RTR 160 4V is the revised engine output. The 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V retains the 159.7cc, single-cylinder, oil/air-cooled layout, although the motor on the latest model produces 17.4bhp of power and 14.73Nm of peak torque as against 15.6bhp and 14.12Nm on the 2020 version. TVS has also managed to shed two kilograms off the kerb weight, and the new model tips the scales at 145kg as against 147kg previously. This gives the 2021 Apache RTR 160 4V a better power-to-weight ratio than before. The motor feels comfortable anywhere above the 2,200rpm mark with a noticeable step-up above the 4,000rpm mark. The throttle response feels crisper and there are no noticeable vibrations in the low and the mid-range. Venture into the higher revs, however, and you will notice a buzz in the footpegs and the handlebar. The five-speed transmission feels smooth while the light clutch action makes life easier in stop-and-go traffic. Further improving the ownership experience is TVS' Glide Through Technology or GTT that enables the motorcycle to keep moving forward without any throttle input. With the GTT in action, the motorcycle moves at a maximum speed of 7kmph in the first gear, 12kmph in second, and 17kmph in third. The tech also works in the fourth and the fifth gear, keeping the speedometer ticking around the 31kmph mark, without any throttle input, in the top cog. The braking setup retains a 270mm petal-type disc at the front as standard while the rear is available with either a 130mm drum unit or a 200mm petal-type rotor. The latter carries a marginal price premium over the former. We cannot comment on the difference between the performances of the two setups as we tested the dual-disc version of the motorcycle. While the braking hardware on the dual-disc model delivers a satisfactory response, the setup lacks the initial bite and it isn’t very confidence-inspiring. The electronic rider safety net is at par with the rivals, and the Apache RTR 160 4V uses a single-channel ABS. The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V features an LED headlight, an LED taillight, and a digital instrument cluster. The headlight delivers a praiseworthy performance of lighting up the path after dark, however, the LED DRL design isn’t the most efficient one. The illumination from the DRLs leaks towards the rider, causing discomfort to the vision when riding in the dark. The cockpit includes an information-rich digital display that speaks of the racing pedigree of the motorcycle. Apart from the regular data, the instrument cluster also records the top speed achieved and the 0-60kmph acceleration timer. While these recording options would come in handy on a racetrack, they provide very little utility value in real-life riding conditions. Instead, a gear-position indicator would’ve enhanced the practicality aspect of the motorcycle. Smartphone connectivity is not part of the package yet, although that feature may arrive in the future. Do note that the Apache RTR 200 4V already benefits from Bluetooth connectivity. Fuel Efficiency The motorcycle returned an overall fuel economy of 41.4kmpl which, along with the tank capacity of 12-litre, should deliver a range of 497km between fuel stops. Fitness of Purpose The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is a perfect motorcycle for anyone who wants a sporty commuter. The added power and the lighter weight make it more fun to ride than ever before. The motorcycle feels agile and it’s quick to change directions. Moreover, the light weight makes the Apache RTR 160 4V remarkably easy to filter through traffic. The motorcycle can also sit comfortably at highway speeds, making it fairly suitable for long-distance rides. The lack of wind protection, however, will bother the rider at three-digit speeds. At a time when performance motorcycles are climbing up the price ladder into borderline “unaffordable” territory for many, products like TVS Apache RTR 160 4V ensure that there’s something for everyone. The motorcycle lives up to the company’s racing history, and it is among the most fun-to-ride products in its segment in the Indian market. The overall package works well, and the added power makes the motorcycle even more fun to ride. The addition of the GTT function makes life easier in bumper-to-bumper traffic situation too. On the downside, the LED DRLs could’ve used better quality covers while the instrument cluster would’ve felt complete with the addition of a gear position indicator, but we’re nitpicking here. The prices for the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V start from Rs 1.07 lakh for the rear drum variant while the dual disc version is available for Rs 1.10 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi). The performance is genuinely impressive, and the acceleration continues to put a smile on my face. For my regular office-to-home commute, including bumper-to-bumper traffic and frequent signals, I consistently get around 36 km/l. On highways, the mileage improves significantly—at a steady cruising speed, I’ve managed roughly 44–46 km/l using E20 fuel. There’s definitely room for more features, especially considering what some competitors offer. I would have liked to see hazard lights and a real-time mileage indicator on the TFT cluster. The ABS is not switchable, which isn’t necessarily a drawback from a safety perspective, but having the option could be a useful addition for experienced riders. Also, cruise control would be really nice to have. The rear suspension feels slightly stiff when riding solo. However, with a pillion of decent weight, the ride becomes much more comfortable and well-balanced.My showroom experience was just okay, but the service-centre experience has been good so far. One thing I would strongly suggest is not blindly opting for extended service packages or long-term service schemes beyond the third free service. Evaluate the service quality first and decide based on your experience.A lot of people complain about poor service, but I feel it depends heavily on the specific service centre. The one I visit has been reliable, so my experience has been positive. If you’re unhappy with the authorised service centre after the free services, you can always find a trustworthy independent mechanic or a reputable service franchise. For example, Michelin Tyre & Service (MTS) outlets can be useful for tyre-related work, while a dependable local workshop may be a better option for regular maintenance.Overall, it’s a fun, efficient, and enjoyable bike with strong performance. A few additional features would make it even better, but after 8 months, I’m still very happy with the ownership experience. Authorized TVS service centers have been reliable, with low routine maintenance costs. Pros: - Refined engine with distinct riding modes - Loaded with features like Bluetooth navigation and GTT - Premium design and impressive build quality Cons: - Rear seat padding could be slightly softer for long pillion rides - Suspension feels a bit stiff over sharp potholes Maintenance Tip for Owners: Keep the chain properly cleaned and lubricated every 500 km, and stick strictly to the recommended oil change intervals. Worst decision of my life. I recommend dont purchasing your dream in TVS. They had no proper service technician also i facing gear sensor complaint and shock absorber noise from the day i bought. I went to complaint about the issue in showroom they told me that the issue is resolved but within one week the same issue arises. Here are my rating as of now Performance ⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- 32-35Kmpl with E20 Look ⭐⭐⭐⭐ --Look is good with matt finish. The combination of black and red. Service ⭐⭐ --I went to the nearest service centre for servicing. No professionalism. Lack of technical knowledge. My navigation not working got reply ,we don't know to fix it.On 5th service they broke the underbelly of the bike and while delivering after service they refused broken by them. When i complaint they only stick it with glue and marked the complaint as resolved. Specifications ⭐ --Gps not working properly since starting, sometimes work but most of time shows nothing. After 15-20 complains and also 1 X tweet about this issue,i fed up and gave up. Issues - Most of time navigation won't work. - No message notification, not a single time in 2 years. - It hectic to connect the device with bluetooth. Bike have severe breaking Issue The braking system of the vehicle is completely worst. From the first service, the front brake is making a lot of noise. Even the drum break doesn't make this much noise. At the time of every service, I have raised this issue with the service centre, but the issue has not resolved yet, even after changing the brake pads. It has already completed 4 services, but is still facing the same issue. And now from past few days, the rear brake is not working at all; it's getting stuck while riding fast. reak break pad are just one month old. It doesn't look like dual ABS. It's getting skid in 40-50 speed also. Really disappointed with the braking system of the bike. I never expected that I would face this kind of severe problem after buying this bike. Now I feel that I have made the biggest mistake of my life by purchasing this bike. My bike is just 10 months old, and now I am looking to sell it because of the poor service and issues with the bike. Tvs company is trying to attract the customer by conducting service mela occasionally. But they should look to improve their service quality, and also need to do some R&D into their bike braking system. I suggest to other not purchase this bike who are looking for a 160 CC bike. There are some better options like the Pulsar N160, which is better in every parameter than this bike. Dear TVS, I need a quick resolution to my issue. Performance King, But Old Look Was Better "Apache RTR 160 4V ka performance aur features 2025 model mein bahut hi badiya ho gaye hain, jaise TFT display aur traction control jo pehle kabhi is segment mein nahi the. Lekin honestly mujhe iska new headlight design pasand nahi aaya. 2024 wala headlight zyada sporty aur aggressive look deta tha. Agar TVS purana headlight design continue karta to aur perfect hota. Overall bike best hai apni class mein, par looks thoda aur better ho sakte the."
