Upgrading to Win 11 24H2 from 21H2
发布时间:2026-08-24 | 浏览:1
This is the version of Win 11 I now have. Following a notice that I needed to upgrade, I've tried everything (I think) that Microsoft suggests. I'm only computer-experienced enough to be dangerous. I downloaded the PCHealthCheck utility, and the Win 11 Installation assistant. Health Check said everything was good. Installation would not complete. I checked the TPM module (results below). Now I'm not sure where to go. I appreciate your help.

I understand your frustration, and I’m here to help. You’re correct that Windows 21H2 reached its end of service on October 8, 2024, which means it no longer receives security updates or support. Reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/relea... The only way to upgrade to the latest version, 24H2, from 21H2, is by performing an in-place Windows 11 upgrade. Since you mentioned trying some troubleshooting steps, did those include attempting an in-place upgrade? To get your device up to date, the best course of action now is to perform a Repair Upgrade. This process upgrades your system to the latest version of Windows 11 without affecting your personal files or apps. Here’s how to do it: > Download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from the official Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo... > Under "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)", select "Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO)". > Once the ISO is downloaded, right-click on it and select "Mount", then click on "Setup.exe". > You may be prompted by User Account Control, in which case, click on "Yes". > In the "Install Windows 11" dialog, click "Next". > Setup will check your PC and display a license agreement. Click on "Accept" to proceed. > Wait for the setup program to check for available free space. > On the "Ready to install" page, ensure that "Keep personal files and apps" is checked. Click "Install" and follow the prompts. > Windows 11 will restart your device several times and lead you to the lock screen. Depending on the options you set, it will keep all your files, apps, and user accounts. For more detailed guidance, you can also refer to: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for... This should resolve the issue and get your system updated to the latest supported version. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out. Click "Reply" below to let me know. Anonymous 2025-01-09T04:35:51+00:00 Hi John, I have been following your guide to download 24H2 from 21H2. I chose the language English International due to my region being English Australian. I got to this stage below but it would only allow me to save my files so I backed out of the install. it advised me that my pc was set on a different language so it could not be installed saving apps and files. On the "Ready to install" page, ensure that "Keep personal files and apps" is checked. Click "Install" and follow the prompts. Can you please advise what language should I download the ISO file. I just want to upgrade to 24H2 so I get the security updates Thanks in advance Justine 0 comments No comments

It sounds like everything went well. I’d also advise providing feedback via Feedback Hub (Windows key + F key) if you encounter any issues with 24H2 so Microsoft can address them in future updates. You can monitor your system for at least two days to see how it performs. I really hope the information I provided and the steps were helpful. 0 comments No comments

Anonymous 2024-12-12T15:26:19+00:00 Hj John. When I got up today, the Installation Assistant had finished and my laptop greeted me with "Hi." It ran through a few more things and now I have 24H2 installed. Thank you so much for your guidance! I haven't discovered any problems yet, but I'll let you know. -- Barbara 0 comments No comments

I understand your concerns, and it’s great that you’ve already taken proactive steps like turning off your VPN and ensuring a stable internet connection. Let’s address your questions one by one: About the ISO file: > Yes, the Win11_24H2_English_x64.iso is the correct version if your system is running on 64-bit architecture, which is standard for most modern PCs. There’s no need to download the file without x64. About running the ISO from the D: drive: > It’s perfectly fine to store the ISO file on your second disk drive (D:). However, when you run it, make sure you mount it properly or create a bootable USB drive if you plan to clean install later. About what to do if Installation Assistant hangs at 99%: > If it’s still stuck by morning, try these steps: > Restart your PC and relaunch the Installation Assistant. > If it still doesn’t progress, you can try installing directly from the ISO file. To do this, double-click the ISO to mount it and run setup.exe. This will perform an in-place upgrade without the need for the Installation Assistant. About the concerns about the update version 24H2: > I completely understand the hesitation about upgrading given the reports about 24H2 issues. If you don’t urgently need to upgrade, you can wait for at least another month like February or watch out for any updates regarding fix and know issues here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/relea...
