Petrol pump dealers across Madhya Pradesh have decided to stop accepting UPI payments above ₹2,000 from October 15. Around 4,700 petrol dealers have decided to withdraw their acceptance of UPI payments beyond ₹2,000 due to a 0.4% merchant discount rate (MDR) on some UPI transactions. Fuel dealers said they operate on very thin profit margins, and the additional MDR will add to their losses. For payments above ₹2,000, cash will have to be used at petrol pumps. Petrol pump dealers have decided to refuse UPI payments The MP Petrol Pump Association stated that its members are upset that they will be subjected to the 0.4% MDR on some UPI payments. The association president, Ajay Singh, said that a significant amount of money is being paid through UPI for fuel purchases, so the additional MDR will be a problem for petrol pump owners.
