2026-06-17 HF Issues Korea’s First Social GBP Covered Bond HF Issues Korea’s First Social GBP Covered Bond - World’s only social GBP covered bond since 2022 Korea Housing Finance Corporation (HF, CEO Kim Kyung-Hwan) announced on the 17th that it successfully issued a GBP 500 million Social GBP Covered Bond (approximately KRW 1 trillion) to strengthen ESG management and promote social value. This issuance is particularly significant* as it marks the first social GBP covered bond issued by a Korean institution and the only GBP covered bond issued in the form of a social bond** in the global GBP covered bond market since January 2022. * While global pension funds and asset managers have targets for the proportion of ESG bonds in their portfolios, there has been no supply in the GBP covered bond market since Yorkshire Building Society’s issuance in January 2022. The bond’s scarcity is therefore expected to attract investment demand and reduce funding costs. ** A special-purpose bond issued to finance projects that create social value, including housing welfare and education The bond is a three-year floating-rate note, priced at 3.953%, comprising the Sterling Overnight Index Average (SONIA), the UK risk-free reference rate, plus 0.510%p. By investor type, ▲ banks accounted for 43%, ▲ asset managers for 38%, ▲ central banks and international organizations for 10%, ▲ and others, including insurers and pension funds, for 9%, reflecting participation from a diverse range of global investors. An HF official said, “This issuance is an achievement that once again demonstrates international financial markets’ recognition of HF’s strong external credibility,” adding, “We will continue to contribute to housing stability for the public and the creation of social value through sustainable finance.” Meanwhile, since March 2019, HF has issued all of its covered bonds as ESG bonds, including social bonds. Through these issuances, HF has continued to expand housing finance for low- and moderate-income homebuyers with genuine housing needs while promoting social value. more
