Blender is developed by a global community of contributors.
Explore ongoing projects that shape upcoming releases and get involved in work happening beyond the roadmap at developer.blender.org .
Ongoing Projects
Bring native panoramic rendering, which previously only existed in Cycles, to EEVEE.
Organize the media being used or yet to be used.
Extend geometry node tools to allow creating interactive operators.
Selection & basic manipulation tools in Draw Mode.
A new carver tool for cutting out shapes from strokes & fills.
Bringing animation layers to Actions.
Add tooling for non-photorealistic surface shading that reacts to multiple lights.
Support gaussian splat importing and rendering natively.
Introduce simplified, layer-based compositing workflow.
Build a FLIP (Fluid-Implicit Particle) fluid system in geometry nodes.
Improve material and texture authoring, with a high level user interface for painting, layered procedural effects and baking.
Porting the popular Looptools add-on into core Blender.
Expand the ripple editing tools in Blender’s Video Sequencer.
Bring Blender lib linking closer to importing data from other formats, plus allow more flexibility in the loading process.
Improve the ease of use of the new Raycast Node.
Support OpenPBR Surface for interoperability, and upgrade Principled BSDF with matching features.
Shared “project” environment for different blend-files.
Port Blender to run natively on Android.
Port Blender to run natively on iPad and other iOS devices.
A simple and efficient way to override property values of any data-block, linked or local.
Upcoming Projects
Eliminate jagged edges and technical artifacts in post-processing.
Allow attaching post-processing effects directly to individual objects or materials.
Completed Projects
Implement a compositor modifier in the Video Sequencer. P.S. Performance improvement is still ongoing.
Add support for Blender Asset Tracer 2.0 and other improvements.
More stable version, better compatibility with future versions of Blender.
Improve the performance when using Virtual Reality with the Vulkan Backend.
Cut initial shader compilation time in half on some platforms.
Move to a new tool-based workflow for creating fills and allow fills to have holes.
Initial implementation for Ray Queries
Integrate a frame profiler aiding both evaluation of new feature performances and profiling of the overall Blender codebase.
Fix existing limitations and issues of Grease Pencil Bucket Fill.
Update Grease Pencil materials to increase quality and performance of textured brushes.
Add support for online/remotely hosted asset libraries.
Support blocking camera vantage points while immersed in Virtual Reality.
Implement Draw Module instancing optimizations support for EEVEE.
Fix critical issues and make raytracing implementation more robust.
Use many high resolution textures with little memory, by loading only tiles at mipmap levels that are needed.
High quality hair dynamics modifier.
